Scientific and cultural information about our watershed

Calling all volunteers for Summer 2011 Sampling in Wolf Run Watershed as part of the US EPA 319(h) Watershed Plan Development Process. We are seeking volunteers willing to help with three different types of monitoring:

  1. Grab Sample Collection for laboratory analysis, once a month at selected sites in the watershed
  2. Habitat assessments of stream segments looking at stream side vegitation, in stream features and bank stability
  3. Conductivity survey hiking up the creek with a conductivity meter, GPS unit and camera.

If you are interested in participating, please let us know. We ask that volunteers complete the free Watershed Watch Phase 1 training for Grab Sample Collection and Field Chemistry, Phase 2 training for Habitat Assessment and attend a Quality Assurance Project Plan orientation as part of this project.

Samples were analyzed for E. Coli bacteria, Total Coliform and Bacteroides qPCR (DNA) analyses to quantify human sourced E. Coli in the watershed.

Friends of Wolf Run completed a study with UK Environmental Research and Training Lab and Bluegrass Community and Technical College EST Program on pathogen source identification Study April - June 2008: The group sampled as part of a follow up study funded by the Kentucky Water Resources Institute through the UK ERTL Labs.
